Understanding the Internet

The internet is so large you cannot even begin to understand how large. There are 130 trillion indexed web pages, which we can access, and makeup only a tiny part of the full picture. This raises the question of what makes up the rest of the internet. Each day we get to learn nr things about that part that people do not know much about. It is famously referred to as the deep and dark web.
The other side of the internet is what is called the deep and dark web. What we manage to see via Google is appropriately called the surface web. The deep web is where Google cannot manage to crawl or index its websites. You will notice they are password-protected, such as a financial institution’s website. The deep web happens to be 500 times bigger than the surface web. It is the largest portion of the internet. The dark web, on the other hand, is the tinier part of it. It also happens to be a lawless place.
The dark web is where some truly illegal and dark activities happen. The common web browsers cannot get to it. There is also no protection when you venture into it. To make it through, you need an anonymous browser, lest malware attacks take you down. A good one is a Tor browser. There shall be different URL extensions to those you normally apply. You will not use .com, .net, or .edu, but use .onion.
The browsing experience is slow and looks ancient. Do not expect elaborate graphics in the design, but mostly text. There are some clean sites, but also some dirty ones. You will see some illegal internet activity on a part of those sites. It may only be a small part as compared to what happens in the surface web, but the magnitude of their effects are far more deadly. You shall find products and services such as human organs, uranium, sperm, deadly weapons, professional assassin services sold here. Those are places where law enforcement is still struggling but will not likely get to the bottom of.
The internet infrastructure comprises of billions of devices passing along data. The internet busies itself with storing, communicating, and computing data. There is a lot of data being manipulated, which speaks of its sheer size. The internet is looked at as having over 1 million exabytes of data, which is a quintillion byte of data. The figure is so large you need time to think of it. It also generated 1.1 zettabytes of traffic per year. One zettabyte is one trillion gigabytes.
These bits of info go to show how vast and yet to be comprehended the internet really is. We need to learn so much more about the internet. You will discover more when you take time to browse this site.
